Ukraine’s TPS Extension and Redesignation: Implications and Impact

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has extended and redesignated Ukraine for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months, effective from Oct. 20, 2023, through April 19, 2025. The extension allows existing TPS beneficiaries to retain their status through April 19, 2025, if they re-register and meet eligibility requirements. The redesignation also permits additional Ukrainian nationals who meet certain residency and presence requirements to apply for TPS. These announcements were posted in a Federal Register notice. Alongside the extension and redesignation, the notice includes instructions for re-registration and initial applications, as well as applying for an Employment Authorization Document. DHS intends to conduct outreach efforts to inform the public about the TPS extension and redesignation for Ukraine.
