Summary of New Measures to Address Fraud in Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program

Minister Randy Boissonnault has announced new measures to combat fraud in Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) program. The key actions include stricter enforcement of the 20% cap policy, rigorous oversight in high-risk areas, potential LMIA fee increases, and future regulatory changes regarding employer eligibility. The government is also considering refusal to process applications under the low-wage stream and is modernizing the TFW Program for agriculture and fish processing sectors.

These measures aim to ensure the TFW program is not used to bypass hiring Canadian workers, enhance the integrity of the program, and protect temporary foreign workers from exploitation. The government will continue to monitor and tighten regulations as necessary.
