On February 25, 2025, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the implementation of new Alien Registration requirements as part of Executive Order 14159. These changes will become effective on April 11, 2025.
Who Must Register?
Under the new rules, the following individuals are required to register:
- Foreign Nationals Over Age 14:
- Those remaining in the U.S. for 30 days or longer must register and be fingerprinted within 30 days of their arrival.
- Foreign Nationals Under Age 14:
- Parents or legal guardians must re-register the child and ensure fingerprinting within 30 days after their 14th birthday.
Proof of Registration
If you already possess one of the following valid documents, you are considered registered:
- Form I-94 (Arrival-Departure Record)
- Form I-551 (Permanent Resident Card)
- Form I-766 (Employment Authorization Document)
- Parole Stamps in Passport
- Various other immigration forms related to removal proceedings
How to Register?
To comply with the new registration requirement:
- Create an account on myUSCIS.
- Complete and submit Form G-325R (Biographic Information).
- Attend a biometric (fingerprint) appointment at a USCIS Application Support Center (ASC).
- Receive and maintain your Proof of Alien Registration via your myUSCIS account.
Penalties for Non-Compliance
Failure to register can result in:
- Fines up to $5,000
- Imprisonment for up to 6 months
- Deportation proceedings
Special Note for Canadians
Canadians who receive an I-94 upon entry are considered registered. However, those entering via land ports of entry without an I-94 may need to register if staying for more than 30 days.
