The Trump Administration has announced large-scale raids are on the horizon. We thought these raids were out of vogue when Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) took such raids offline because of the humanitarian issues presented when children came home from school and parents were not there to greet them because they had been placed in detention.
Nationwide raids to arrest thousands of members of undocumented families have been scheduled to begin this Sunday, according to two current and one former homeland security officials, moving forward with a rapidly changing operation, the final details of which remain in flux.
The proposed Operation, backed by President Trump, was originally scheduled for mid-June but it was postponed because of resistance among officials at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The raids, which will be conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) over multiple days, is said to also target “collateral” removals, according to the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the preliminary stage of the plan.
In the proposed Removal operations, authorities might detain immigrants who happen to be on the scene, even though they were not actually targets of the raids.
The Immigration and Nationality Lawyers at the NPZ Law Group – VISASERVE – continue to remind individuals that they need to “know their rights”. Knowing your rights begins with an understanding that you do not have to answer the door if ICE officers come knocking.
