Express Entry to Canada

In 2015, Canada implemented the Express Entry Program which allows individuals as well as families across the globe to immigrate to the country within just a few months and can become lawful permanent residents. The process is completely electronic and managed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Applications are reviewed and approved based on factors such as the skill and experience of the applicants. Through the Express Entry program, Canada hopes to foster growth of its skilled labor workforce.

What is the Process for Express Entry to Canada?

The entire application process for Express Entry can be easily accessed online. The Canadian Government uses the program to manage applications. To begin the application process, you will first need to determine whether or not you are eligible for one of the Express Entry programs. There are threeeconomic based immigration programs that fall within the classification referred to as Express Entry. They include;

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Canadian Experience Class

To be eligible for any of these programs, you need to meet specific requirements that relate to your:

  • Language skills
  • Type/Level of work experience
  • Amount of work experience
  • Job offer
  • Level of education

After you have determined that you are eligible for one of the Express Entry programs, you will need to gather the necessary documents. The required documents will vary based upon the program for which you are applying. You will need a passport or travel document for all programs. You may also need an education credential assessment report, provincial nomination, a written job offer from a Canadian employer, and more.

Once your application is complete, you can submit your profile which provides detailed information about yourself. Completion of your profile will put you into a pool of accepted candidates. Being in the Express Entry pool allows you to create a Job Match account with Canada’s Job Bank. This is a tool to use in order to find employment in the country. It can also be useful to utilize private sector job boards to promote yourself to Canadian employers. These job boards are online services that advertise jobs and provide you with tools in your employment search.

Once the process is complete, you will receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence. You will need to submit your application for permanent residency within 60 days if you are invited to do so.
