End of SEVP COVID-19 Flexibilities Announced as Public Health Emergency Terminates

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has announced the termination of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program’s (SEVP) COVID-19 flexibilities effective from May 11, 2023, following the end of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency and National Emergency. The existing flexibilities will continue through the summer semester of the 2023 academic year for active F and M nonimmigrant students. However, for the 2023-24 academic year, these students will not be allowed to count online classes beyond the regulatory limits toward a full course load. New or re-entering students must comply with distance learning regulatory limits, and I-20 forms should not be issued for students outside the US planning to exceed these limits. All previously submitted procedural change plans will be voided as of May 11, 2023, and schools must comply with all regulatory limits from the fall session of 2023.
