For many immigrants, the United States represents opportunity, innovation, freedom, and the chance to build a better future. Throughout my career as an immigration attorney spanning more than three decades, I have had the privilege of helping thousands of individuals, families, entrepreneurs, students, researchers, physicians, and business leaders navigate the complexities of the U.S. immigration system. Among the many communities I have served, the Indian-American community has been particularly inspiring — not only because of its remarkable professional accomplishments, but because of its deep commitment to family, education, entrepreneurship, and the values that have always defined the American experience.
My journey into immigration law began with a simple but powerful belief: people who come to America seeking opportunity deserve knowledgeable guidance and strong advocacy. Immigration law is much more than forms, regulations, and government procedures. At its core, it is about people — their families, their dreams, and their futures. Every case represents an individual story, and every successful outcome has the potential to change lives for generations to come. That belief has guided my work from the very beginning, and it continues to drive everything we do at NPZ Law Group today.
A Career Shaped by Purpose
I grew up with a deep respect for the law as an instrument of justice, and immigration law gave me the opportunity to put that belief into practice in a very personal way. Early in my career, I began working with Indian professionals — engineers, scientists, physicians, researchers — who were navigating an immigration system that was often confusing, slow, and unforgiving. What I saw in those early years shaped the attorney I would become. These were extraordinary people, among the brightest minds in the world, yet they faced bureaucratic hurdles that had little to do with their talent or their contributions. I knew then that this work mattered, and that I wanted to dedicate my career to it.
Over the years, I have witnessed the extraordinary impact that Indian immigrants have had on the United States. Indian Americans have become leaders in medicine, engineering, information technology, finance, academia, research, hospitality, and countless other fields. Their achievements have helped drive innovation, strengthen the American economy, and enrich the cultural fabric of our nation in ways that are difficult to overstate. Many of the technologies we rely on every day, the medical breakthroughs that have saved lives, and the businesses that have created jobs across this country bear the fingerprints of Indian American talent and determination.
The Work of NPZ Law Group
At Nachman, Phulwani, Zimovcak (NPZ) Law Group — known also as VISASERVE — our work has allowed us to build deep and lasting relationships with Indian professionals, multinational corporations, universities, healthcare organizations, and community groups. We have assisted talented individuals pursuing employment-based visas, investors launching businesses, students seeking educational opportunities, and families working toward permanent residence and citizenship. Each of these cases is different. Each one carries its own weight and its own significance. And each successful outcome is a reminder of why this work matters.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been helping highly skilled professionals from India build successful lives in the United States. I have had the honor of representing physicians who moved to rural and underserved communities to provide medical care that might not otherwise be available. I have worked alongside engineers whose innovations changed entire industries, researchers whose discoveries advanced human knowledge, and entrepreneurs whose businesses created jobs and opportunity for others. Watching these individuals thrive — and knowing that our firm played a role in making that possible — is one of the deepest sources of professional fulfillment I have known.
The Challenge of the Green Card Backlog
The Indian-American story is also, at its heart, a story of resilience. Many of the individuals I represent face challenges that go well beyond the immigration process itself. The employment-based green card backlog for Indian nationals has created a situation in which extraordinarily talented professionals — people who have lived in the United States for a decade or more, built homes, raised children, and contributed immeasurably to their communities — find themselves waiting for permanent residency with no clear end in sight. This is one of the most pressing injustices in our immigration system today, and it is an issue I have spoken about and advocated for throughout my career. These individuals deserve better, and I remain committed to fighting for reform that recognizes their contributions and provides a fair path forward.
Education and Community Engagement
Beyond legal representation, I have always believed in the importance of education and community engagement. Throughout my career, I have participated in seminars, workshops, university programs, professional conferences, and community events designed to help immigrants understand their rights and the opportunities available to them. Knowledge is one of the most powerful tools an immigrant can have, and sharing it freely has always been a priority for me and for our firm. When people understand the process and know their options, they are better equipped to make decisions that protect their families and their futures.
The U.S.-India Partnership
The relationship between the United States and India has grown significantly over the past several decades, and it continues to deepen. Today, the two nations share strong economic, educational, technological, and cultural ties that benefit both countries. Indian students enrich American universities. Indian entrepreneurs help drive innovation in Silicon Valley and beyond. Indian professionals play critical roles in industries that are shaping the future of the global economy. This partnership is not only a testament to the vision of both governments — it is a reflection of the countless individual relationships, built one person at a time, that have created lasting bonds between the two nations.
250 Years of American Independence
As the United States celebrates 250 years of independence, it is both fitting and important to recognize the contributions of the immigrant communities that have helped build this country. America has always been defined by its ability to attract and welcome talented individuals from around the world. That is not incidental to America’s success — it is fundamental to it. Indian Americans have become an integral part of that success story, and their achievements demonstrate, once again, how diversity, hard work, and opportunity can come together to produce extraordinary outcomes.
Throughout my professional journey, I have come to understand that immigration is not merely about moving from one country to another. It is about building bridges — between cultures, between nations, between generations. Every immigrant who comes to this country carries with them a unique set of experiences, talents, and perspectives. They bring energy and ambition. They bring new ideas. And they enrich every community they become a part of.
I remain deeply grateful for the trust that so many individuals and families have placed in me over the course of my career. Their success stories — the physician who finally received permanent residency after years of waiting, the entrepreneur whose business visa opened the door to a company that now employs dozens of people, the young professional who called to say she had just become an American citizen — these are the moments that stay with me. They remind me of why this work matters and why it is worth fighting for.
Looking ahead, I am optimistic about the future of the Indian-American community and the continued growth of the U.S.-India relationship. Together, these two great democracies have demonstrated the power of shared values, mutual respect, and collaboration. The contributions of Indian Americans will undoubtedly continue to shape the future of the United States for generations to come.
As America commemorates this historic milestone, we celebrate not only the nation’s past accomplishments but also the countless individuals whose dreams, determination, and contributions continue to define its future. It has been an honor to play a role — however small — in helping members of the Indian-American community achieve their American dreams. I look forward to continuing that mission in the years ahead.
