Federal prosecutors in New Jersey have charged several individuals accused of operating a fake immigration law firm and staging sham court proceedings to defraud immigrants.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the group allegedly posed as attorneys and government officials, created fraudulent documents using official-looking logos, and charged victims hundreds to thousands of dollars. Authorities claim the scheme caused serious harm — including at least one immigrant missing a real immigration court hearing and being ordered deported.
The defendants have been charged with wire fraud, money laundering, and false impersonation.
