IRCC BACKLOGS AND PROCESSING TIMELINES

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) released most updated information on its backlog and inventories. To meet annual immigration targets and achieve goals, IRCC should have large inventory of applications for various immigration programs. Inventory refers to pool of applications received for a program that have not yet been finalized. These include applications that are processed within service standards as well as backlog of applications.

IRCC indicates to make efforts to reduce backlog of applications by processing over 80% of applications within service standards. As of December 31, 2022, IRCC indicates that 55% of total applications for temporary residence, 42% of total applications for permanent residence and 72% of total applications for citizenship were processed within service standards. It also aims to reduce the backlog by hiring more employees and continuously improve the processes to eliminate steps and use technologies to support employees.

We are hopeful to see IRCC process application for immigration programs with speed and efficiency.
