On April 25, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) took a major step to streamline permanent residency for foreign national physicians serving in publicly-funded healthcare. The Temporary Public Policy introduces exemptions to certain job offer and work experience criteria under the Express Entry system.
The changes specifically impact:
- The Canadian Experience Class and the Federal Skilled Worker Program, - Points allocation for Canadian work experience, and - Arranged employment in the Express Entry's Comprehensive Ranking System.
These updates will enable a broader pool of foreign national physicians to qualify for federal economic permanent residence programs. Ultimately, it means better chances for these physicians to receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence, strengthening Canada's healthcare sector by attracting skilled international professionals.
