Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (“IRCC”) is opening Parents and Grandparents (PGP) Program from October 13, 2020 to November 3, 2020 to strengthen Government’s commitment to reuniting families. Canadians and Permanent Residents who wish to sponsor their parents and grandparents to come to Canada will have an opportunity to submit an interest to sponsor form online for these three weeks. IRCC will randomly select potential sponsors and send them an invitation to submit an application. The selected applicants will have 60 days to submit their application. Given that many sponsors may have been financially impacted by the exceptional circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, IRCC will assess if the sponsor has enough income to support all the individuals financially, based on last three years of income tax returns, as seen in below table. This includes proof that the sponsor meets the income requirements for each of three tax years - 2020, 2019 and 2018. For the year 2020, sponsor is obliged to apply Notice of Assessment (“NOA”) as soon as it is available or give permission to IRCC to receive sponsor’s Notices directly from the Canada Revenue Agency (“CRA”). INCOME REQUIRED FOR 3 TAX YEARS RIGHT BEFORE THE DAY YOU APPLY: Total number of people you will be responsible for | 2020 | 2019 | 2018 | 2 people | $32,899 | $41,007 | $40,379 | 3 people | $40,445 | $50,414 | $49,641 | 4 people | $49,106 | $61,209 | $60,271 | 5 people | $55,695 | $69,423 | $68,358 | 6 people | $62,814 | $78,296 | $77,095 | 7 people | $69,935 | $87,172 | $85,835 | If more than 7 people, for each additional person, add: | $7,121 | $8,876 | $8,740 | A maximum of 10,000 applications will be accepted for processing as part of the 2020 PGP intake. In 2021, IRCC will open a new intake of interest to sponsor forms to accept a total of 30,000 new applications.
