Today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced new measures and travel restrictions to control the spread of Coronavirus in Canada, stating exceptional circumstances call for exceptional measures.
Canada will be closing its border to people who are not Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents, except Air Crews, Diplomats, immediate members of Canadian Citizens and also U.S. Citizens.
Air Operators will be formally mandated to prevent all travelers from boarding any board the plane who presents symptoms of coronavirus. A basic health assessment of every traveler will be conducted as per the guidelines of Public Health Agency of Canada. This means that anyone with symptoms of coronavirus will not be able to enter Canada. To help asymptomatic Canadians to return home, a Support Program will be set-up, giving financial and health support.
Staring March 18th, 2020, only four Canadian Airports will be accepting International flights – Pearson International Airport, Vancouver International Airport, Montreal Trudeau International Airport, and Calgary International Airport. The domestic flights and flights from the U.S., Mexico and the Caribbean will not be affected. These measures do not apply to trade and commerce.
