Welcome Veronique Malka

Upon graduating from the McGill University National Program in 1993, Veronique Malka left her native Montreal, Quebec to practice law as a Barrister & Solicitor in Toronto, Canada. While Ms. Malka's Canadian experience as a litigator was primarily in family law, she also handled a variety of immigration matters ranging from refugee claims to family-based sponsorship applications. She trained in International Law at the Canadian Human Rights Commission and served several years as Reconsideration Officer for the Ontario Human Rights Commission in Toronto. Merging, almost naturally, her international law background to her interests in family law, as of 1999 Ms. Malka handled international cases of children abducted under the Hague Convention. Referrals came from all over the globe, including France, England, Canada and the US. She has appeared on television and radio across Canada and has written on the topic of child abduction (published by the Ontario Gazette in 2001). Ms. Malka moved to New Jersey in 2003 and brings with her 10 years of experience providing legal advice to Canadians and representing clients in court.

Unfortunately, abductions of children internationally continue to be on the rise as children become too often the pawns of parents caught up in acrimonious divorce or custody disputes. In 2005 alone, the Department of State assisted in the return of 292 children removed overseas, and of these cases 154 children were returned through the use of the Hague Convention.* Few attorneys are accustomed to applying the laws of the Hague Convention, which are very distinct from the laws that govern domestic relations and local custody and access disputes. At NPZ Law Group, Ms. Malka is committed to help parents assert their rights under the Hague Convention, in New York and New Jersey courts, to help secure the safe and immediate return of their children. In addition to this specialty, Ms. Malka practices cross-border Canadian-US immigration. Her ability to represent clients fluently in English, French and Spanish make her a welcome addition to the international legal scene.
